Who Are the Queen's Daughters?

Our Mission: We are a Catholic ministry of women entrusted to support and serve the spiritual, social and humanitarian needs
of our community, under the guidance of our patroness, the Blessed Mother.

Our History:
The Queen's Daughters was organized February 17, 1915, in Louisville, Kentucky. It
was founded to work "for the good and general advancement of fellow beings in accordance with Catholic principles".  Which means we were organized to help those on the margins of society, God's lost and forgotten children. The name, the Queen's Daughters, was chosen to honor the Blessed Mother, in whose name and under whose protection all work was to be undertaken through out the Louisville community.

In the beginning, most of the Queen's Daughters volunteer work focused on providing relief and welfare.  During WWI, the Queen's Daughters were active in helping the Red Cross aid soldiers at Camp Taylor.  In 1924, His Excellency, the Most Reverend John A. Floersh, asked the Queen's Daughters to open a home for dependent infants and expectant mothers.  That was when Our Lady's Home for Infants was founded; our work ended there in 1992.  In 1989, Reverend Timothy A. Hogan asked the Queen's Daughters to support and do volunteer work at Liberty House, a shelter for homeless youths.  While our work ended there in 2002, the Queen's Daughters did not stop being involved in the Louisville community!

The Queen's Daughters Scholarship Program, which provides financial aid to local Catholic high school students, began at the start of the 1987-88 school year. This program is still flourishing and continues to bring much needed financial assistance to today's students who desire at Catholic education. In 2000, the Queen's Daughters initiated support to the Mother-Infant Care Program and, in 2001, opened an office and meeting room for this program at Catholic Charities.  This program enables women and men to attend a two hour, six week parenting class where they receive vital information about safety and caring for their infants.  After this course is completed, parents receive a Certificate of Achievement, a class manual for future information and are provided with a crib and mattress, or some other piece of essential baby equipment.

Today's Queen's Daughters:
Today, the Queen's Daughters is an active and vibrant community of over 300 members.  Through the constant guidance of the Blessed Mother we continue to serve, gather in fellowship, and pledge support for the Scholarship Fund, Catholic Charities Mother-Infant Care Program, and other charitable organizations through out the Archdiocese of Louisville.
